A\u00a0typical salary negotiation is unfortunately very often minimal to\u00a0inexistent:\u00a0you will be\u00a0asked your\u00a0expectations &#8211; and then, an offer is\u00a0made.\u00a0A real negotiation, however, does not always take place.<\/p>\n<p>Do not underestimate this part\u00a0as a wrong step\u00a0could have an impact for the rest of your career: getting the next salary right will\u00a0influence the next one and the one after and so on.<\/p>\n<p>Whilst money is the most obvious factor in the salary negotiation, there are many other things you can negotiate. Here come 33\u00a0things you can negotiate when accepting an offer other than money:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>A &#8220;better&#8221; job title as of start date<\/li>\n<li>A better job title after the trial period or after 12 months<\/li>\n<li>Promotion after trial period<\/li>\n<li>Waiver of trial period<\/li>\n<li>A signing bonus\/ arrival fee<\/li>\n<li>Company assets<\/li>\n<li>Executive education: define how many days per year and\u00a0the budget<\/li>\n<li>Guaranteed bonus in year 1<\/li>\n<li>Waiver of the competition clause if you are in sales<\/li>\n<li>Car or car allowance<\/li>\n<li>Partial or full coverage of your car leasing<\/li>\n<li>Public transports<\/li>\n<li>Upgrade for flights or train travel<\/li>\n<li>Frequent flyer miles you can keep<\/li>\n<li>Size and location of office (yes, matters to some)<\/li>\n<li>Home-office. Believe it or not but I have recently heard that a company is going back to full presence now that &#8220;Covid is over&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>Flexibility in working hours<\/li>\n<li>Date of next salary negotiation<\/li>\n<li>Increase in salary after trial period<\/li>\n<li>Housing (total or partial)<\/li>\n<li>Relocation allowances<\/li>\n<li>Admissions to associations or business clubs<\/li>\n<li>School loan reimbursement<\/li>\n<li>Yearly medical checkup<\/li>\n<li>Discounts on company products and services<\/li>\n<li>Better insurances: health, dental, vision, disability, life\u2026<\/li>\n<li>More time off: sick day handling, personal days, paid holidays, vacation (how many, when and how?)<\/li>\n<li>Time off for charity\/ community work<\/li>\n<li>Sports and recreation: fitness\u00a0club, golf or other<\/li>\n<li>Equipment: notebook, mobile phone<\/li>\n<li>Company cafeteria or an allowance<\/li>\n<li>Special commissions on deals you are bringing in<\/li>\n<li>And finally: \u201cOK, what did I forget? What else can we negotiate? What would you negotiate if you were in my seat?\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong><br \/>\nConclusion:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>John F. Kennedy said &#8220;Let us never negotiate out of fear\u00a0but let us never fear to negotiate.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>If you don&#8217;t ask, you won&#8217;t get. Negotiating your salary and your departure are\u00a0the most important negotiations with your employer.
